Referrals and Managed Care
Health Maintenance Organizations
(HMO's) and other forms of managed care are becoming
more common types of health insurance. If you
have one of these plans, you and your physician have
responsibilities in "managing" your care.
Typically, this will be coordinated by your family
physician. If it is necessary to see a
specialist, a referral is required. You should
make an appointment with your Primary care physician
in order to obtain a referral. The referral
process can take five to seven days. Upon
completion your referral will be faxed to the
specialist. You may contact the referral
coordinator at our office or the specialist office to
confirm the referral has been recieved prior to your
scheduled appointment. Please make sure that our
office has your current insurance information so your
referral can be processed accurately and efficiently.
